A Tribute to Amos Kenan

A decade after his death, the figure of Amos Kenan will stand at the heart of  major events at Festival Solidarity 2019: Kenan the writer, satirist, intellectual and artist, alongside Kenan the warrior, political activist, and Canaanite. There are so many strands connecting the groundbreaking figure of Amos Kenan with the struggle for human rights.
In the 1950s Kenan was one of the first Israelis who dared to call for dialogue with members of the Palestinian national movement. Throughout the years, alongside his work as a writer, journalist and artist, he acted unceasingly to advance the recognition of a Palestinian nationality, the injustices of the Naqba and the occupation, and for the achievement of a just compromise.
In 1984 he published his groundbreaking dystopian novel "The Way to Ein Harod," which depicted a future State of Israel falling under military rule and expelling the Palestinians from its territory. Today, when sectors of Israeli society are still trying to banish the expression "the Palestinian people" from public discourse, the figure and actions of Amos Kenan are more important than ever.
The tribute to Amos Kenan will include screenings of documentary films in which Kenan took part, including rare interviews never before seen.
